Germany: NStream 2 technical acceptance goes on, 2 thread almost ready

MOSCOW, Jul 12 (PRIME) -- Technical acceptance of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline is going on with the first thread completed and the second almost completed, the German Economy Ministry said in a statement seen by PRIME on Monday.

“Currently, the process of a so-called technical acceptance is going on, as the first thread has been finished and the second thread has been almost finished, technical acceptance has to be done. This is a technical process and project operator Nord Stream 2 AG is to implement it,” the statement read.

The ministry also said that the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany that is responsible for construction in the exclusive economic zone of Germany, issued the construction permit. The permit for pumping and intake of natural gas should be issued by the mining authority of Stralsund, and technical approvals of the process were under work.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie. The project is strongly opposed by the U.S. and several European states.
